Update: Improved Access to Dispensed Prescriptions Data
We are in the process of moving dispensed prescription data for Pharmacy, Appliance, Dispensing Doctor, and PADM dispensing to the NHSBSA Open Data Portal.
Once complete, this transition will provide historical data from 2014 onwards along with all future updates, ensuring continued access to the latest information.
Benefits of moving to the Open Data Portal
- Easier access – View and download data in a more user-friendly format.
- API availability – Retrieve data programmatically for more efficient use.
- Consistent updates – Ensure access to the latest published data in one place.
We are aiming to complete this transition by the end of Q1 2025/2026.

The reports are published by the 25th day of each month:

They relate to the dispensing month. For example, the November report relates to prescriptions dispensed in November and received and processed by us in December, with payment made at the end of January.

A report detailing monthly information on practice prescribing in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man, and the number of items dispensed in England that were prescribed by that practice.

Pharmacy and appliance contractor dispensing data
A report detailing monthly information dispensed by Pharmacy and Appliance Contractors in England which includes Advanced Services declared. View our Pharmacy and appliance contractor dispensing data caveats (Word: 240KB).
The December 2023 pharmacy and appliance contractor dispensing data has run again to include a breakdown of Contraception Service consultations by Ongoing and Initiation. Due to a technical issue, the number of Contraception Service consultations previously displayed was not accurate. The new report has the correct values.
The February 2024 files have been replaced due to amendments to the number of items.
The March 2024 files have been replaced. This is due to amendments made to the figures regarding Number of Appliance Use Reviews (AURs) conducted in user's home.
Note that with effect from August 2024's data, Health and Wellbeing (HWB) regional codes and names have been included for each contractor.

Dispensing doctor and PADM dispensed data
A report detailing monthly information relating to prescriptions dispensed and/or personally administered in England by Dispensing Doctor Practices. This includes prescriptions personally administered in England by Prescribing Doctor Practices. View our Dispensing Doctor and PADM dispensed data caveats (Word: 230KB).
Please note that from June 2020 data the address will be provided in one column with the post code in a separate column.
