Claim for adult social care learning and development: privacy notice

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) is responsible for administering the Claim for adult social care learning and development service. The Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) is responsible for the policy.

DHSC and the NHSBSA are joint controllers of the data.

Why we process your information

Your employer will share information about your learning and development with us so we can process the reimbursement claims. This information includes:

  • your name and National Insurance number
  • your role
  • details of the training activities you have done
  • your training certificate, if applicable

We will use this information to:

  • reimburse your employer
  • detect and prevent fraud and mistakes
  • analyse general trends to support more effective planning of NHS services
  • research the effectiveness of the service

By law, we must process this information to deliver the service on behalf of DHSC.

Sharing your personal information

We may share your information with DHSC to administer the service. To prevent, detect and investigate fraud and errors, we may also share your information with HM Revenue and Customs.

Anonymous information may also be shared with DHSC to:

  • monitor compliance with equality law
  • research the effectiveness of the service

Your information will not be transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area.

Keeping your personal information

Information handled in relation to each claim will be deleted no later than 7 years following payment of claims, where applicable, or 10 years in cases of legal action. We will delete information relating to incomplete or rejected applications 2 years after it was received.

Your rights

Your information will be managed as required by Data Protection law.

You have the right to:

  • receive a copy of the information the NHSBSA hold about you
  • request your information be changed if you believe it was not correct at the time your employer provided it
  • request that your information be deleted if you believe we are keeping it for longer than necessary
