This accessibility statement applies to the NHS Business Services Authority Careers website.
This website is run by the NHS Business Services Authority. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent version of NVDA)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
The NHS Business Services Authority is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The NHS Business Services Authority logo is announced as 2 separate elements when using a screen reader. It is also not announced as a logo when using a screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.5 (Images of Text).
The NHS Business Services Authority logo appears more than once on a page. Each logo has the same link text but has a different purpose and destination. For example, one link goes to the Careers website homepage, and the other link goes to the corporate website homepage. This may cause confusion and make navigation hard for all users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose In Context) and 3.2.4 (Consistent Identification).
The navigation menu does not display correctly when you change the size of the browser window to 250%. This makes it harder for users with low vision to navigate the website when zoomed in at 250%. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
Not all headings are correctly marked up and some text is incorrectly marked as a heading. This makes it hard for users to find information or understand relationships between different parts of the content. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels) and 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
Some links and buttons have a very low contrast ratio. This makes it hard for users to identify them, particularly users with low vision or other impairments. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum) and 1.4.11 (Non-text Contrast).
Some links do not change status when you hover over them with a mouse. This makes it hard for users to identify them. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose In Context).
Social media icons and titles link to the same URL making some of the links redundant. This results in additional navigation and repetition for keyboard and screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose In Context).
Footer links read right to left on a screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order).
Decorative images are not ignored by screen readers. This results in unnecessary text being read to assistive technology users. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
List content is not coded as a list. This means list content is not read correctly by screen readers. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
You cannot navigate this website using speech recognition software. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value) and 4.1.3 (Status Messages).
We plan to make the website accessible. When we publish new content we’ll make sure it meets accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We’re committed to making sure this website is compliant to WCAG 2.1 ‘AA’ standard.
Every new released website will be designed, built and tested to meet ‘AA’ standards by default.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 15 December 2022. It was last reviewed on 21 December 2022.
This website was last tested on 15 December 2022. The test was carried out by the Digital and Online Team.
We tested all of the website screens to meet ‘AA’ WCAG 2.1 standards, using manual and automated tests.
We run each webpage through automated Wave, Lighthouse and Axe accessibility tools then manually test with screen readers (NVDA and VoiceOver) and standards checklists.
These checklists contain standards that have been compiled using WCAG, the NHS service manual and the Government Digital Service (GDS) guidance.
