The NHSBSA Antimicrobial Stewardship - Pharmacy First Dashboard is available now in the ePACT2 platform.
Following the launch of the Pharmacy First service launch on 31 January last year, the new Antimicrobial Stewardship - Pharmacy First dashboard reports Pharmacy First consultation activity for all 42 NHS Integrated Care Boards and is intended to support antimicrobial stewardship programmes.
The NHS Pharmacy First service enables patients to access care from community pharmacies for 7 common infections:
The 7 common infection clinical pathways are:
- Acute Otitis Media for children aged 1 to 17 years
- Acute Sore Throat for adults and children aged 5 years and over
- Impetigo (non-bullous) for adults and children aged 1 year and over
- Infected Insect Bites for adults and children aged 1 year and over
- Shingles for adults aged 18 years and over
- Acute Sinusitis for adults and children aged 12 years and over
- Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection for women aged 16 to 64 years with suspected lower UTIs
The dashboard includes a range of comparators relating to Pharmacy First consultation activity, reporting the number of consultations, patients and items for consultation outcome, consultation type, and medicines supplied for each of the seven common infections. The dashboard also includes comparators reporting consultation activity as a population rate based on the General Practice of the patient, which will provide Integrated Care Boards with insight into their population use of the Pharmacy First service.
The Antimicrobial Stewardship - Pharmacy First dashboard provides monthly reporting, as well as trend analysis for each of the seven common infections in selected comparators.
There is an additional comparator associated with the Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection clinical pathway, which reports both Pharmacy First supply and General Practice prescribing of nitrofurantoin modified-release 100mg capsules, for women aged 16-64 years. This comparator is designed to support Integrated Care Boards in the surveillance of female population exposure to nitrofurantoin, and support improvement in the management of urinary tract infection in primary care.
